Recruit’s Mailing List

2009 April 21

A New Updating System

We have replaced our old system of providing information to recruits. The old system relied upon emails and was sometimes difficult to update. Also, when someone wanted to unsubscribe, they would often receive emails that they should not have received. Our new system is much simpler and provides recruits with more control over their subscription.

All updates will be posted to the site, which will limit emails. If you do not register, you will not receive the updates! Also, please note that this is a different process from applying for Tryouts or Pre-Tryout Evaluation.

How to Register for Tryouts

2009 March 15

If you want to register for the Open Tryouts, you need to take the following steps:

If You Filled Out a Pre-Tryout Application (Prior to April 1st)

You simply need to contact me via email and let me know you’re planning on trying out at the Open Tryout. You only need to fill out a Tryout Application if…

  • your insurance or other personal information has changed.
  • your skills have improved.

If You Have Not Applied for a Pre-Tryout

  1. You need to fill out the Tryout Application (see link above or at right).
  2. You need to read the Recruit’s Guide (see link above, post on main page, or link at right).
  3. You need to contact me via email, with questions.

Open Tryouts are April 17th (Friday, 5:00 PM) & 18th (Saturday, 8:00 AM), 2009!

Note: We may have late tryouts, given on an individual basis. If you miss the Open Tryout or are waiting to finish developing a particular skill, you will need to fill out a Tryout Application and then contact me and let me know you want a late tryout. I do not guarantee that we will allow late tryouts. That decision depends on any needs that develop, as well as your skill level. It is more difficult to make the team at a late tryout, because you must be better than at least one person at your position. Late tryouts are not eligible for scholarships.

Benefits of Trying Out

2009 March 12

Some recruits may still be debating trying out in April versus looking into a later tryout. While we might allow a later tryout for qualified individuals, there are reasons not to wait.

Disadvantages of Waiting

  1. Late tryouts are not eligible for scholarships.
    • I assign scholarships immediately after our Open Tryouts. This is a policy established in order to provide student-athletes with some certainty about their future; I do not reserve any scholarships.
  2. Late tryouts mean you have less time to learn the stunts and cheers and dances.
    • We create our Cheers DVD and send it out in March. Thus, veterans who have been accepted to return after evaluation and signees who made the team after a Pre-Tryout Evaluation receive their DVDs before Tryouts.
    • Those who make the team at Tryouts receive the DVD immediately following Tryouts.
  3. We offer late tryouts only if we have a need AND if you exhibit superior skills, including standing and running tucks.
    • If we do not have any spots on the team, if we are overloaded at your position, or if your skill level does not already exceed at least one team member at your position, you may not receive a tryout.

Who Would Benefit from a Late Tryout

  • Persons who do not have the minimum skills by the Open Tryout date, but who believe they could achieve those skills by waiting.
  • Persons who are not committed to attending APSU.
  • Persons with injuries that would inhibit their ability to showcase their skills.

If you have questions about pre-tryouts, open tryouts, or late tryouts, please contact me!
